I entered the fitness industry after taking a FOH job at boutique gym Core Collective. I had attended a few spin classes and instantly fell in love with it. Prior to this I was performing around the world in shows on cruise ships. I knew I needed a job to keep me in London and as soon as I went to my first class, I was hooked and wanted to find a way to be a part of it.
Having started out on FOH at Core Collective I then qualified as a personal trainer to enable me to coach their classes. A marketing executive role opened within the management team, leading me to becoming Head of Culture and Brand. This then facilitated my current job as Brand Executive at 1Rebel, a much larger company. Jumping into the world of marketing for a huge fitness brand has married my love of movement with my creative side.
A joint high and low of my career so far was when 1Rebel took over Core Collective. On one side I was so sad to see such an incredible brand and community come to and end, yet joining the incredible team at 1Rebel has opened so many doors to my career in marketing.
Since entering the industry to now, I’ve seen a huge step back in actually getting into the studio. I’ve gone from coaching 21 sessions per week, to max 6 as I transition to a more behind the scenes roll, within the management team. My aspirations when I first started were simply to get as many sold out classes as possible, to perhaps having a small community of PT clients - I never really realised how many opportunities and paths there were that I could take, away from the coaching side of things. This quickly changed as we came out of lockdown and I entered the fitness marketing space. Now I aspire to be a creative director, preferably within the fitness industry with a brand that inspires me.
There are so many different roles within the fitness industry that aren’t just being a PT. Whether that’s getting creative on the marketing team or jumping into an operations role to name a few. What you see on Instagram is so one sided, the opportunities are endless and there’s something for every skill set. I love teaching classes but I was also hyper aware that that has a sell by date. Taking a step back has been a very rewarding career choice so far.
The community and the fact that it's such a place for positive change - this being such a focus of the company that I currently work for.
